Graduation Gift Ideas 2014

Updated on January 31, 2015

Celebrating a Wonderful Accomplishment

Graduation is an important time in a young person's life. It symbolizes great accomplishment and promise for the future. Graduation is a time of change, of leaving behind the old and embracing the new. Whether it's elementary school, high school, college, or grad school, graduation is a big deal.

Sometimes finding a graduation gift can be tricky. You want something special but you probably don't want to empty your bank account either. Whether you're looking for something cute or more elegant, you'll find some great graduation gift ideas below.

Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss' "Oh, The Places You'll Go" is a classic graduation gift. It encourages you to reach as high as you can, even when others tell you it's too high. And it's not all roses, of course. We'll all face difficult times in our lives and this book tells you to face them head on, push through, and come out stronger on the other side. It's a great gift if you're looking for something small, but meaningful.

Graduation Blanket

If you're looking for a unique graduation gift, look no further! I'd never even heard of a graduation blanket before, but it's a super cool idea. Your graduate has certainly earned some relaxation time, and what better way to relax than curling up with a warm graduation blanket?

Graduation Stuffed Animals

Who doesn't love a stuffed animal? And who says they're just for kids? Graduation animals are a great way to celebrate an accomplishment while still holding on to a piece of your childhood. They're cute but still sophisticated and are a great gift for any graduate.

Jewelry and Key Chains

Jewelry is a classic gift. There's so much variety, too, that you're sure to find something that suits your graduate. And you don't need to spend a fortune just because it's jewelry--there's plenty of affordable options.

Picture Frames

Even though the world has gone digital, there's nothing like a good old fashioned printed photograph. Graduation is a time you should remember forever, and what better way to do that then with a framed picture? Picture frames are a perfect graduation gift. If you're shopping for a friend who you went to school with, you can include a photo of one of your favorite memories with them, too.

Rubber Ducky Graduates

Whether you're looking for a gag gift or a party favor, these rubber ducky graduates are a lot of fun. You can buy just a single one if it's a gift, or you can get them in sets of 12 and hand them out as party favors. They're cute and sure to be remembered!

The average cost of a graduation party is nearly $1,000. Are you planning to throw a huge party?

Pomp and Circumstance

Have you ever wondered about the traditional graduation song? The title actually comes from the Shakespeare play Othello. It's a series of marches that originally had a more military meaning. The first march is the most famous and was first used as a graduation song at Yale University in 1905 because its composer, Sir Edward Elgar, was receiving an honorary doctorate of music.

Traditional Grad Song

Can't remember just what Pomp and Circumstance sounds like? It's not played at every grad ceremony, so don't feel bad. Watch this video to have a listen to the classic song.

Gift Cards

Let's face it...some people are just hard to shop for. Even if you have oodles of great ideas, you might be nervous that they won't like whichever gift you choose. A gift card is a sure fire way to make sure they like their gift. Plus, most students are flat broke when they finish school, so it's nice to have a bit of spending money to get what they need for the next phase of their lives. Gift cards are also ideal for high school grads who need supplies for their dorm room. A personal gift is nice, but if you aren't sure, then a gift card is a good route to take.
